The Pumpkin Festival

We spent this weekend with Jon's family in southern Indiana at his grandparent's house and at their town festival. It's become a yearly event for Jon and I and we look forward to it every year. The weather was perfect and there was a lot of family there so we had a great weekend!

I know we have a million pictures that look just like this, but we hate bothering people to take our pic all the time, so here's another one!
This was the best entry in the parade
This is the town square where everything takes place- we discovered how to use sepia and black and white on our camera this weekend... thus you'll see a lot of pics in those tones!
Courtney (Ryan's girlfriend), Ryan (Jon's brother), Adam (Jon's cousin), Dale (Jon's Mom), Jon (Jon)
One of my favorite things at the festival
Jon's grandpa- he enters the pumpkin contest every year and usually wins too- this year, they had a really bad hail storm that ruined pretty much all of the pumpkins. They usually have about 15 entries, and this year there were only 2!
This is his pumpkin- it weighed 421 lbs- enough for first place! Believe it or not, this is actually pretty small compared to last years- you can see the hail damage on it.
This is the competition- around 120 lbs- poor guy!
We decided to waste $5 on a cheap thrill- we appear to be very excited though!

A couple weeks ago, we got winds from Hurricane Ike, and this is some of the damage from the storm.
This is where the pumpkin that won was being housed- the hail tore through it, but it managed to protect the pumpkin enough.
Now for the beautiful fall colors...

Miloh and I on a walk

Having fun with the camera

Jon's grandpa has created a road back in the forest to drive the mule on. We couldn't get around this branch, so Jon decided to go move it.... turns out it was a tree.... and.... it's still right there. :)
I felt like an artist with this one... I got down in the grass and everything.
The colors are beautiful but the smell was the best part- pine and walnuts- it smelled very fally.

All in all we had such a great weekend! It was so good to spend time with the family. Hope everyone else had a good weekend too! J&H

Hadley's Here!

We wanted to send a special Congratulations to Andy and Megan for the birth of their first baby girl: Hadley Renee Huber!

I talked to Megan this morning and she said that Hadley is perfect. We saw a quick text photo and she was so cute! We're so thankful she's finally here and cannot wait to meet her! We love you guys!!

Along with Fall

Mums have arrived at our Farmer's Market so fall must be near! Our plant hasn't bloomed much yet, but the farmer's market had a nice selection and they were 4/$20! We haven't planted her yet, but she'll make a nice addition out front. Well, basically this post is going to be boring, because we have been boring lately, but it's been a while and everyone else has been so good about posting so I figured I better keep our end of the deal up too.
Along with fall come yellow jackets- this is Jon's yellow jacket proof outfit. He was preparing to spray their nest and hoped they wouldn't sting through um.... I think he had 3 layers on! :) Incase you are wondering..... we still have a yellow jacket nest out-front, but he didn't get stung once!
Along with fall come banquets- Jon had a brunch today to meet and thank the donors of the scholarships he won. He was awarded 6 different ones which paid half of a semesters tuition! I'm so proud of him... always... and thankful that he takes the time to apply for them (unlike me).
Along with fall comes SWEATERS! Yeah! I love sweaters! I also wanted to add that I finally broke down and bought some of those stupid stretch pants that are in style and I am embarrassed to admit that they're actually pretty cute and very comfortable!
And finally.... along with fall comes puppy haircuts! This will probably be Miloh's last haircut until winter is over. He looks pretty darn cute!

I should have a lot to post soon. Next weekend is the Pumpkin Show in southern Indiana and all of Jon's family and his dad's side of the family will be there. We are staying all weekend to partake in the events and we're also getting family pictures. I'm excited to get away and spend some time with everyone. Until then.... Happy Fall!

Visiting the Struckman Family

Jon and I made the decision that we just had to go and meet miss Emma Struckman, so we made the drive and we're so glad that we did. It was so great to meet her and to see the joy in Shane and Katie's eyes as they are completely smitten over their beautiful gift from God. Enjoy the following pictures, baby courtesy of Shane and Katie! :)

This is a sign that Katie's previous employer and friends put up for them
Beautiful baby Emma- awe struck by her daddy

A sleepy one- she was so alert that pictures of her sleeping were few and far between

Grandma Jenny- what a blessing she's been to Katie and Shane
She's so cute!

Proud mommy- Emma is so taken by her mom. They have such a neat bond already!
This is such a sweet picture

Saying goodbye

We had such a great time visiting with them and we're thankful they let us butt in on their time with her. :) It's sad to think how much she'll change before the next time we see her, but we're so thankful we got to see her the first few days of her life! We'll never forget it! Katie and Shane, we'll be praying for you guys, but have peace knowing that you make Christ the center of your marriage and your lives. We're always here for you!!

Labor Day Weekend

Sorry it's been so long since we've posted, it's just been crazy around here getting back to student life. We wanted to post some pictures of our Labor Day weekend. Jon's dad's side of the family has a family reunion every Labor Day weekend, so we drove to southern Indiana to spend some time with the family. We had a great time like we always do with them:

The Hughes'- Jon found some old aviator glasses of his dad's and thought they were pretty cool. I think he looks pretty darn cute!
And Miloh does too!
These are our aunts and Grandma Hughes (far right)- they are all sisters and a riot to be with!

On Monday, we decided to finish up a few projects around the house. We finished the wall in the formal living room:
Before
Stripping the wall paper
Painting after the repair
The finished project (much more our style)- we still need furniture for this room, but this will have to do for now

We hope everyone had a good weekend as well!

Love,
